Samsung Launches World's First Curved Screen Smartphone

Samsung Round

Bangalore: The South Korean manufacturer Samsung had presented the world with a Smartphone with curved display, the first of its kind. Samsung’s new innovative product is a variant of Galaxy Note and the gadget can be thought to be the first step taken by the company to producing wearable devices with  flexible and unbreakable screen.

This new Galaxy Round is thought to steer Samsung ahead in the innovation war with other market players such as Apple and LG Electronics. "It's a step forward for having unbreakable gadgets and flexible devices eventually. But for now, the new phone is more of a symbolic product," said Hana Daetoo Securities analyst Nam Dae-jong.

Other than its curved design, the gadget does not sport any eye catching features. Samsung said that the Galaxy round’s curved shape will give more grip and ease of handling compared to other flat-screen models.

The only outstanding feature of the gadget is its tilt-function that allows users to check messages and missed call information even when the home screen is off. Scrolling through the media files can be done with just a press on the right or left of the screen.

Lack of technologies to manufacture display panels that are thin and heat-resistant poses a main challenge for mass production of the device. The battery installed into Galaxy round is not curved. Cheap production of curved batteries will also have be handled efficiently.

Samsung Round will be initially available only in South Korea and the release in other markets is yet to be decided. Samsung is planning to stand ahead of the curve by incorporating the technology into their newly released Smart watches.
